Install Leaked Official Android 4.3 ROM On Samsung Galaxy Note II

By : Amandeep Singh Chawla
With the next version of Android already on the horizon, the latest Samsung devices have been getting Android 4.3 updates pushed out to them lately. Though the previous (yet recent) iterations of these devices aren’t going to be left behind either. That said, as the history of Samsung’s updates go, newer devices get such updates before they are pushed out to older ones, and the same is true for Samsung Galaxy Note II. If you can’t wait for Samsung to officially start pushing the update to your Note II via OTA, we’ve got good news for you. The latest official (TouchWiz) firmware for the the International variant of the device (GT-N7100) based on Android 4.3 ROM and codenamed XXUEMJ5 has been leaked by SamMobile, and you can install it right away.
Do note that this leak is a test version of the firmware and therefore, some things may be broken in it. That said, usually such leaks are pretty close to being fully functional and stable enough for daily driver. Also note that this firmware is only meant for the international GSM variant of the Note II codenamed GT-N7100, and will not be suitable for any other variant of the device. That said, being an official firmware, installing it will neither change your binary counter, nor void your warranty.

Requirements

Procedure

  1. To be on the safe side, backup all important data from your phone and internal SD card to some external medium like external SD card or PC.
  2. Download Odin v3.09 as well as the leaked firmware from the links provided above, extract the contents of both the downloaded ZIP files, and place all the extracted files into the same folder.
  3. Launch Odin, leave everything else exactly as it is, press the AP button and select the file named N7100XXUEMJ5_N7100OLBEMJ4_N7100XXUEMJ5_HOME.tar.md5. Double-check to make sure that Re-Partition is not checked.
  4. Power your phone off off, and then restart it in Download mode by pressing and holding Home, Volume Down and Power keys.
  5. Connect your phone to your PC via USB. If everything is done properly, you should see one of the boxes in Odin’s top section light up in blue.
  6. Click Start and wait while Odin flashes the firmware, making sure not to disconnect the USB or interrupt the process on the PC or the phone.
There you go – after the reboot, your Galaxy Note II should be running Android 4.3. In case of any issues such as crashes, force-closes or boot loops etc., perform a factory reset from recovery. You can do it as follows:
  1. Power the phone off and reboot it into recovery by pressing and holding Home, Volume Up and Power buttons.
  2. Go to wipe data/factory reset using the volume keys and select it by pressing the power key. Note that this will wipe all your data, including everything on your SD card.
  3. Reboot your phone.
